The noun that the pronoun replaces or refers to is called its antecedent.

Singular antecedent β†’ Singular pronoun

Plural antecedent β†’ Plural pronoun

Example:

βœ… Gender Agreement

Masculine antecedent β†’ he/him

Feminine antecedent β†’ she/her

Neutral antecedent β†’ it

Example:

Make sure it’s clear which noun the pronoun refers to.
