Reflexive pronouns are pronouns that refer back to the subject of the sentence. They show that the action is done to the subject itself.

Examples:

  • yourself πŸ‘€
  • himself πŸ§”
  • herself πŸ‘©
  • itself 🐱
  • ourselves πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦
  • yourselves πŸ§‘β€πŸ€β€πŸ§‘
  • themselves πŸ‘«

Reflexive pronouns are used:

When the subject and object are the same

  • I taught myself to play the guitar 🎸.
  • She blamed herself for the mistake πŸ˜”.

For emphasis (Intensive use)

  • I myself cleaned the entire room 🧹.
  • The president himself attended the ceremony πŸŽ‰.

After certain prepositions

  • She is talking to herself πŸ’¬.
  • He did it by himself πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ.

❌ Don’t use reflexive pronouns as the subject:

  • ❌ Myself went to the park.
  • βœ… I went to the park.

❌ Don’t use reflexive pronouns when it’s not needed:

  • ❌ She made it by herself (if someone else helped).
  • βœ… She made it with help from her friend.
  • Reflexive pronouns always end with -self or -selves.
  • Use myself, ourselves for first person.
  • Use yourself, yourselves for second person.
  • Use himself, herself, itself, themselves for third person.
  • I hurt myself while playing ⚽.
  • You should believe in yourself 🌟.
  • The cat cleaned itself 🐾.
  • They prepared the project all by themselves πŸ†.
