Key Notes:

✨ Use Relative Pronouns – Who & Whom ✨

👩‍🏫 Relative pronouns are words that connect a clause (extra information) to a noun. Two important ones are who and whom.

👉 Used as the subject of a clause (the one doing the action).

Example:

  • The girl who won the race 🏆 is my friend.
  • (Here, who = the one doing the action → winning)

💡 Tip: If you can replace it with he/she/they, use who.

👉 Used as the object of a clause (the one receiving the action).

Example:

  • The boy whom we met yesterday 🤝 is very kind.
  • (Here, whom = the one receiving the action → met)

💡 Tip: If you can replace it with him/her/them, use whom.

  • Who = He/She/They (subject → does the action)
  • Whom = Him/Her/Them (object → receives the action)

👉 Example:

  • She is the teacher who helps us. 👩‍🏫
  • He is the teacher whom we respect. 🙏

Fill in the blanks with who or whom:

  • The student ___ answered the question got full marks. ✅
  • The person to ___ you spoke is my uncle. 👨
  • The actor ___ plays the hero is very talented. 🎭
  • The lady ___ I invited is coming today. 🎉
  • Use who when the person is doing something.
  • Use whom when the person is the receiver of something.
