Definition: When you speak directly to someone and use their name, a title, or a noun of direct address, use a comma to separate it from the rest of the sentence.

Examples:

  • โ€œ๐ŸŽ‰ Lisa, can you help me with this homework?โ€
  • โ€œPlease, Mr. Sharma, take a seat.โ€

Tip: Think: โ€œWho am I talking to?โ€ โ†’ Thatโ€™s your direct address!

Definition: Words or phrases at the beginning of a sentence that introduce the main idea. Use a comma after them.

Common Introductory Words:

  • Yes, No, Well, Oh, Finally, However, Sadly

Examples:

  • โ€œ๐ŸŒŸ Well, I think we should start the project now.โ€
  • โ€œNo, I donโ€™t want any ice cream today.โ€
  • โ€œFinally, the long vacation has arrived! ๐Ÿ–๏ธโ€

Definition: Words that express strong emotion or feeling. Usually followed by a comma.

Common Interjections: Wow, Oh, Ouch, Hurray, Alas, Hey

Examples:

  • โ€œOuch, that really hurt!โ€
