A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought. ✅
We can classify sentences into four types based on their purpose.

Purpose: To give information or state a fact.

Punctuation: Ends with a full stop (.)

Examples:

  • I love reading books. 📚
  • The sun rises in the east. 🌅

Tip: Declarative = Declare a fact

Purpose: To ask a question.

Punctuation: Ends with a question mark (?)

Examples:

  • Where is your notebook? 📓
  • Did you complete your homework? 🏠

Tip: Interrogative = Inquire or ask something

Purpose: To give a command, request, or advice.

Punctuation: Ends with a full stop (.) or exclamation mark (!)

Examples:

  • Close the door. 🚪
  • Please help me with this task. 🙏
  • Stop shouting! 🛑

Tip: Imperative = Instruct or request 🗣️

Purpose: To express strong emotion (surprise, joy, anger, excitement).

Punctuation: Ends with an exclamation mark (!)

Examples:

Tip: Exclamatory = Express emotion strongly ❤️
