| What is a Plural? |
A plural shows that there is more than one of something.
Usually, we add -s or -es to make a word plural.
Example:
- Book → Books 📚
- Box → Boxes 📦
| Rules for Forming Plurals |
🔹 Most nouns
Just add -s
Example:
- Cat → Cats 🐱
- Dog → Dogs 🐶
🔹 Nouns ending in -s, -x, -z, -ch, -sh
Add -es
Example:
- Bus → Buses 🚌
- Brush → Brushes 🖌️
🔹 Nouns ending in consonant + y
Change y → i and add -es
Example:
- Baby → Babies 👶
- Party → Parties 🎉
🔹 Nouns ending in vowel + y
Just add -s
Example:
- Toy → Toys 🧸
- Key → Keys 🔑
🔹 Nouns ending in f or fe
Change f/fe → v + es
Example:
- Leaf → Leaves 🍃
- Knife → Knives 🔪
❗ Some just add -s: Roof → Roofs 🏠
🔹 Irregular Plurals
Some nouns do not follow rules
Examples:
- Man → Men 👨
- Woman → Women 👩
- Child → Children 👶
- Mouse → Mice 🐭
- Tooth → Teeth 🦷

Plural nouns match with plural verbs
Example:
- The cats are sleeping 🐱😴
- The books were on the table 📚
| Special Cases |
Unchanging nouns: Same in singular and plural
- Deer → Deer 🦌
- Fish → Fish 🐟
Compound nouns: Pluralize the main word
- Mother-in-law → Mothers-in-law 👩👩👧
