Metric mixed units

Key notes:

1 metre (m) = 100 centimetres (cm)

1 kilogram (kg) = 1,000 grams (g)

1 kilolitre (kL) = 1,000 litres (L)

Learn with an example

➡️ Convert: 118 cm = ____ m _____ cm

Find out how many metres are in 118 centimetres.

Divide:

118 ÷ 100 = 1 R18

There is 1 metre, with 18 centimetres left over.

118 cm = 1 m 18 cm

➡️ Convert: 8 kg 413 g = _______ g

Convert the 8 kilograms to grams.

Multiply:

8 × 1,000 = 8,000

8 kg = 8,000 g

Now add this to the 413 grams you already have:

8 kg 413 g = 8,000 g + 413 g

8 kg 413 g = 8,413 g

➡️ Convert: 5 kL 254 L = _______ L

Convert the 5 kilolitres to litres.

Multiply:

5 × 1,000 = 5,000

5 kL = 5,000 L

Now add this to the 254 litres you already have:

5 kL 254 L = 5,000 L + 254 L

5 kL 254 L = 5,254 L
