You can use mixed numbers and improper fractions to show the same amount. This can be helpful for when you want to&nbsp;multiply&nbsp;or&nbsp;divide&nbsp;mixed numbers. To change a mixed number to an improper fraction, follow these&nbsp;steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Multiply&nbsp;the whole number by the&nbsp;denominator.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add&nbsp;that number to the&nbsp;numerator.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Write&nbsp;that sum on top of the original&nbsp;denominator.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s&nbsp;try it with&nbsp;<strong>2 3\/4<\/strong>.&nbsp;First, multiply the whole number by the&nbsp;denominator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-large-font-size\"><strong>2<\/strong>\u00d7<strong>4<\/strong>=8<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next,&nbsp;add that number to the&nbsp;numerator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>8+<strong>3<\/strong>=11<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now&nbsp;write the improper&nbsp;fraction!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>11\/<strong>4<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So,&nbsp;2 3\/4&nbsp;is the same as&nbsp;11\/4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" id=\"yui_3_18_1_1_1665574933380_1308\" style=\"color:#bc0404\">How&nbsp;do&nbsp;you&nbsp;convert&nbsp;an&nbsp;improper&nbsp;fraction&nbsp;to&nbsp;a&nbsp;mixed&nbsp;number?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You&nbsp;can go the other direction, too! To change an improper fraction to a mixed number, follow these&nbsp;steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Divide&nbsp;the numerator by the&nbsp;denominator.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Write&nbsp;down the whole number part of the&nbsp;quotient.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Take&nbsp;the remainder and write it over the original&nbsp;denominator.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s&nbsp;try it with&nbsp;9\/4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;First,&nbsp;divide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>9\/4=9\u00f7<strong>4<\/strong>=<strong>2<\/strong>&nbsp;R<strong>1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Write&nbsp;down the whole number part, 2. Then take the remainder and write it over the original denominator. That&#8217;s your&nbsp;answer!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2 1\/4<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So,&nbsp;94&nbsp;is the same as&nbsp;<strong>2 1\/4<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color:#b20505\">What&nbsp;if&nbsp;there&#8217;s&nbsp;no&nbsp;remainder?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>That&nbsp;means you have a whole number!
